What is Lean Manufacturing?

At Hansen, we’re dedicated to lean manufacturing practices, which means we take a close look at our processes to ensure we’re being as efficient as possible while minimizing waste of all forms, which in turns saves our customers money!

Here are seven ways we aim eliminate waste in our business (based on lean manufacturing principles):

Avoiding overproduction: We ensure you get only what you need and don’t produce too many extra pieces. When extra parts are produced, that not only wastes time and energy, but the unused product goes to waste and that would drive our costs up.

Managing time: We ensure that our entire process, from when we receive your order, to when you receive the finished product is as efficient as possible, with as little downtime between steps as possible. It all comes down to time management.

Controlling inventory: Having too much or too little inventory and supplies cause havoc in schedules and manpower. We’ve been doing metal machining and manufacturing for over 40 years and based on our experience, we know our typical volumes and can control our inventory and supplies.

Monitoring transportation: We monitor all parts and accessories to ensure they move through the production process smoothly, and are delivered to you as efficiently as possible. This cuts down on wasted time, and environmental pollution from unnecessary shipping.

Avoiding over-processing: We ensure that our production and administration steps are smooth to prevent unnecessary repetition of steps and to avoid delays in completing your order.

Minimizing defects: Obviously, defective products produce physical waste. We identify and correct defects quickly, thus minimizing repetition of errors.

Managing Staff Resources: Hansen Industries is a privately owned company that answers not only to our customers, but also to our staff. We’ve surrounded ourselves with an amazingly talented group of people who give us their very best work.

Through these and other initiatives, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment and become a less wasteful, more efficient company. We’re proud that our lean manufacturing processes are saving our clients time and money. To learn more or for a project quote contact us.
